How we pick
Inception's engine researches each market and writes each buying guide for one country at a time, in that country's language and currency. Nobody here tests products, and no guide should pretend otherwise. What the engine does is work hard to find the best products you can actually buy where you live. This page explains how, and where it falls short.
This page describes the engine as it runs in October 2026.
What you are reading
The research
A guide begins with a search: a category, a product, a need, sometimes a budget. The engine first works out what the search is really asking for, including its hard constraints, such as a size, a form, an audience or a price ceiling.
An AI model proposes the candidates: the products widely recognized as the best in the category, and the local alternatives that genuinely compete with them in your country on value, availability or support. Where we have access to Amazon's catalog for your country, the model searches it and is told to prefer products it actually found there. It can also run a few web searches set to your country, mostly to check that a model has not been discontinued. For some provinces and states, it also reads local-market notes written by our team.
The model is told to name only real products currently sold in your country, to remove any it is unsure about instead of guessing, to skip near-identical variants, and never to pad the list. It aims for five to seven products, and fewer when fewer deserve a place.
Each pick is matched to a store page or an Amazon listing. A pick whose listing turns out to be another product is removed rather than shown, and the guide's introduction says that products were removed. A pick whose listing contradicts what you asked for can be dropped too. A pick the engine could not check either way stays.
AI models write the text: the introduction, each product's overview and strengths, the FAQs. In a market with more than one language, such as Canada, the guide is then translated by AI from the language it was written in.
The ranking
The list is ranked for the search it answers. Products that meet every hard constraint come first, and fitting the request counts for more than brand fame. Number one is the product the engine would recommend overall for that search, which is not necessarily the cheapest.
When a guide is built for a budget, the picks are checked against prices read at real stores. At most one product above the budget can stay, and it goes last, with a note that says why.
On a guide about one product and its alternatives, that product stays first, because it is the subject of the page.

Reviews
When a guide shows reviews for a product, they were collected from public pages: review sites, blogs, forums, Reddit and YouTube. Amazon reviews are not collected.
Each quote is taken word for word from the page it came from, sometimes shortened, and links back to that page with the publication's name. The short summary above the quotes is written by AI from those quotes and labelled as an AI summary. It is told to name the recurring complaints, not only the praise.
Many products have no collected reviews yet. When none were found, none are shown, and the AI does not invent any.
Who does what
No one reads each guide before it is published. That is the trade that lets the engine cover thousands of searches across many countries and languages, and it is why your reports matter.
Money
Sensitive products
Searches for prescription-only medicines, for people or for animals, are refused: no guide is made for them.
When a product on a guide is sold only on prescription or through professional channels, its buy button is replaced by a notice, such as “Prescription only” or “Professional use”, that points you to a pharmacist, a veterinarian or a professional supplier.
A guide is general information, not medical, legal or financial advice. For health, safety or anything regulated, ask a qualified professional.

Corrections
Every guide ends with a “Report this page” button. Reports reach our team by email every day, and a person reads them. For a correction with sources, or a recommendation you disagree with, write to us directly. If you are right, we fix the page.
